The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers one of the most generous scholarship programmes for international students. Pakistani students are specifically targeted through bilateral agreements, covering Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD study. The scholarship covers tuition fees, monthly stipend (approximately €900), and health insurance.

Eligibility criteria

  • Pakistani nationality (bilateral quota)
  • Age typically under 28 for undergraduate, under 30 for postgraduate (verify per call)
  • Strong academic record (minimum 70% or equivalent)
  • Italian or English language proficiency depending on program
  • Not currently enrolled at an Italian institution

How to apply — step by step

  1. 1 Create an account on the Universitaly portal (universitaly.it)
  2. 2 Check the annual MAECI call (usually published January–February)
  3. 3 Select up to 3 Italian universities and programs
  4. 4 Upload required documents: academic transcripts, motivation letter, CV, language certificate
  5. 5 Submit the pre-enrollment application on Universitaly
  6. 6 Contact the Pakistani Embassy in Rome or Italian Embassy in Islamabad for the formal scholarship application
  7. 7 If shortlisted, complete the enrollment process and apply for your student visa
